Any worker whose job could disturb the fabric of a building finished before the year 2000: electricians, plumbers, heating and gas engineers, carpenters, painters and decorators, plasterers, roofers, demolition and general construction operatives, telecoms and alarm installers, caretakers, facilities and maintenance staff, and the supervisors and managers who plan their work. Cleaning staff in older buildings and surveyors and architects who inspect them are included in HSA guidance. Employers must keep a record of the training given.
How often it is refreshed
The 2006 Regulations require training to be given at regular intervals and adapted to new or changed risks. There is no fixed statutory number of months, but the interval accepted across the industry, and the one most Irish employers and main contractors write into their safety statements, is annual refresher training. A certificate older than a year is rarely accepted at site induction.
